Skin Tags, Milia and Warts
Warts and skin tags are a common skin complaint.
Skin tags are growths connected to the skin by a stalk called a peduncle. They can vary in size from a few millimetres up to 5cms wide and are most commonly found on the eyelids, neck, armpits, groin and under the breasts. Skin tags are not contagious and generally don’t cause discomfort.
Warts are hard growths on the skin that most people will experience at some point. While warts are generally harmless, they can be itchy, uncomfortable and embarrassing. They are caused by a virus and can spread to other people if left untreated.
Milia are small, white or yellow cysts that appear in clusters just under the surface of the skin. These pearly bumps are most commonly found on the face, with the lips, eyelids, nose and cheeks becoming hotspots, although some people also develop milia on their body.
So what causes milia? The reasons why adults develop milia can range from aging and sun damage, to burns, blistering and the long-term use of steroid creams. . It occurs when keratin becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin. Keratin is a strong protein that’s typically found in skin tissues, hair, and nail cells. For most, milia won’t be itchy or painful, although some may experience a level of discomfort.
